We didn't have these iconic Australian birds where I grew up, I didn't
hear their warble until I was almost twenty.

Social Disaster

Imagine using an Internet forum that posts your "replies" on your own page, instead of directly below what you're replying to. Imagine the same forum requiring you to use an additional app, rather than the website itself, to easily track back from other peoples' replies to the post they're replying to.
Imagine having to break large posts into smaller "parts", like the old days of SMS, and having to piece other peoples' broken posts together before they make sense.
Imagine having absolutely no idea where a link you're clicking on is going to send you simply because the poster of said link has only posted the link without a description, there is no automatically generated preview of the linked site and the URL is not even the original URL - it's a shortened nondescript, nonsensical mess of characters. You know, like the links you used to avoid clicking in emails because they probably lead to a site that will set a trojan or virus in your computer.
And lastly I ask you, dear reader, to imagine a stream of social media that you cannot filter unless you use an external application, many (if not all) of which are just as clunky as the site itself.

If you haven't guessed by now, I'm referring to the clunky social media abortion, "Twitter". Do you now see why I deleted my Twitter account?

PS If you're "tweets" are being aggregated to another website, blog or social media, stop it. Stop it right now. We all hate that shit.

World champ axeman backs gay marriage

World champion axeman David Foster may not be a likely poster boy for gay rights.

However, these days the prominent North-West Tasmanian is just as happy to be championing same-sex marriage as he is woodchopping.

The reason? His daughter Sally, her partner Lily and their daughter Wren, who soon turns one.

The Examiner reports that Foster will speak on Tuesday in support of same-sex marriage at a forum in Hobart - something he admits would not have happened before Sally sat down with him and his wife Jan four years ago.

"I think she (Sally) didn't want to (come out) earlier, because I was a bit anti-that and maybe she didn't want to upset me," he said.

"She sat my wife and I down and said `I want to tell you something' and that's how we spoke as a family."

The 54-year-old Latrobe resident said his close relationship with Sally had not changed as a result of that conversation, but his views had.

"Everyone has an opinion, but once it's close to home you realise what's important. My daughter is the same daughter I reared and just because her sexual preferences are different from mine doesn't mean a thing," he said.

"She is a nurse, she has a beautiful partner and a child and if they wish to get married, I can't see why they can't."

I have never been more proud of you, Mr Foster. Where we come from being this open about your support of gay people makes you a target for some fairly awful people, but you stood up for a family member who deserves better.

I actually shed a tear.
